Governance

Agricultural Societies in Alberta must comply with the Agricultural Societies Act, and the associated Regulation. The Government of Alberta provides operational grant support to Agricultural Societies, and requires annual reporting on activities, finances and Board governance.
The High Prairie Agricultural Society is also a Canadian Charity, registered under the Canada Revenue Agency, and must adhere to the guidelines set out for charitable organizations. The HPAS completes an annual Charitable Annual Return to the CRA.
The Society is governed by our Society Bylaws (2020), which provide detail on the roles and responsibilities of the board, Annual and Special meetings, membership, dealing with conflict and more.

Committees

Committees are established as required to meet and organize events and activities at the facility, fundraisers, or major projects. Committees report to the Board at monthly Director meetings and present budget items for approval.
Committee members track volunteer time and attendance at events.

History of the High Prairie Agriplex Facility

Under the leadership of long serving President, Louise Zahacy, and the hard work of the Board of Directors the Ag Society broke ground to start the construction of the Agriplex facility in 1993.
The High Prairie Elks donated the land our facility sits on and was an important partner in getting this project off the ground.
